Tadeja Izola Meertens
The artwork of Tadeja Izola Meertens (1964) can best be described as 'poetic realism'. Her paintings comprise a beautiful balance between the long tradition of dutch realism on the one hand and her very own refreshing view on the other hand which is partly due to her slovenian origin. Within the strict set-up, Tadeja puts in playful elements and small surprises that bring a soft and charismatic effect to her work. Her superior glazing technique is expressed in the lived-through facades. Her journeys through Southern-Europe, and especially the three year trip on her sailing vessel in the Caribbean, are her most important sources of inspiration. 'For those who have eyes to see, the forces of nature are the greatest painters of all times. The tough matter surrounding us is slowly but surely being broken down. And the scenery we have put around us is being recreated in constructions of great beauty. Not only in development there is beauty, but also, even more, in deterioration.'
